Join the Village Network of Petaluma and the Petaluma Regional Library to hear why, when, and how to contact Adult Protective Services (APS). Learn what does and does not occur when you make a report.

All people deserve to be treated with respect and dignity. Learn how Adult Protective Services (APS) accepts and investigates reports of suspected abuse or neglect involving older adults age 60+ and adults with disabilities ages 18- 59. 

PRINCIPLES OF ADULT PROTECTION: ADULTS

  • Have the right to be safe

  • Retain all their civil & constitutional rights unless restricted by court

  • Have the right to make decisions that do not conform to social norms as long as these decisions do not harm others

  • Are presumed to have decision-making capacity unless a court rules otherwise

  • Have the right to refuse or accept service.
